11.8x11.8 in ~ Painting, Oil
A painting of a woman's face in three quarter profile. She is painted against a two-colored background, the upper part white and the lower part yellow ochre, suggesting a horizon. The woman is gazing downwards. The oval of her face is painted in detail. The rest of her head is painted like an underpainting in burnt umber. This choice of technique directs your view to her face, as when you meet someone and you get closer and you start to focus on the face. That for me is where the interaction starts. And once you focus on someone's face, the rest (hairdo, clothes, etc.) tends to fade into the background.
